The transformation journey is underway for 92 women in media from eight countries in Sub Saharan Africa who are participating in the 2021 Leadership Accelerator.
In the first hub, which ran for three weeks to 8th April 2021, the #WINners were trained on 10 topics including Self Discovery, Understanding Who You Are, Understanding and Enhancing your Personal Leadership, Emotional Intelligence , Life and Career Planning , Coaching for Career Roadmap and Tips when Applying for Grants.
These #WINners are now undergoing one-on-one coaching in their respective countries and will have two more leadership hub sessions before they graduate at the end of 2021.
When asked how she experienced the first leadership hub, Grace Ndau, #WINner from Malawi said she is now motivated to work hard “these two days helped me realise that it is what I do that will sustain me and help me grow to a higher position”.
Susan Makore, one of the trainers and Zimbabwe country lead was impressed with the energy from this new cohort. “The level of engagement is commendable. These guys could not wait for day two and are now looking forward to the next leadership hub and also the coaching process.”
All the coaches pointed out that this year’s meetings have been very different as a result of the COVID19 trajectory.
“I am sure the shock that COVID19 brought, threatening many jobs, has made our #WINners want to learn more and show up better in the marketplace. As coaches, we have learned a lot from the past cohorts and the lessons we’ve learned have equipped us to better manage the coaching process,” said Joan Mugenzi, Coach from Uganda.

As one of the 2021 WINers i have realized that the challenges faced in Botswana are more or less the same as other Sab Saharan Africa countries. As women in News we need to work hard for gender balance and for women to accelerate up the corporate ladder. I am excited to be part of this group, this training has motivated me to word hard and know that i can make it to where i want in life. Most of all to self introspect.
