The ‘Strengthening Somali Media’ programme by IMS-Fojo, together with the World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), are pleased to invite women working for media in Somalia to apply for Year 2 of the Women in News (WIN) leadership development programme.
This follows a very successful Year 1 where 12 women graduated from the programme and are already contributing to the development of the media in Somalia. “We have built our confidence to now take positions of leadership not only in the newsroom but in life. We have learnt how to manage newsrooms but we have also learnt how to manage our personal affairs through the coaching and doing the 360 degrees which was a self-discovery. We believe this training has opened up opportunities for us to grow in our media careers.” (Year 1 Graduate)
WIN works with media companies (newspapers, radio, television, and online) and their potential female employees to increase women’s leadership and voices in the news. The programme equips women media professionals in middle and senior management positions with the strategies, skills and support networks they need to take on a greater leadership role within their organisations. It also aims to promote greater gender balance in the news.
Successful applicants will benefit from the following:
- Training on newsroom leadership and self-management.
- One-on-one Coaching to develop the 3-to-5 Year Career Roadmap.
- Peer Mentoring to exchange ideas and experiences & create peer support networks.
- Networking opportunities in national or regional settings to grow business networks.
WHO CAN APPLY: Women in News welcomes applications from media women with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a senior position within media in Somalia. Those able to secure a letter of recommendation from their employers will have an added advantage. The programme is delivered in English. Although there are translation services, those with a working knowledge (speaking, understanding and writing) will have an added advantage.
Note: successful participants will be expected to travel on specific occasions throughout the programme, which runs from April through to December 2017.
